A couple tips on Herb Gardening
Thursday, October 4th, 2007 by TimIf you’re already interested in herbal horticulture, then the next step is that you need to do is to make yourself as informed as possible to actually get yourself started; if you make yourself as versed on the subject of herb gardening as possible it will make it that much easier.
What you Need to Know About Herb Gardening
One of the first things that you need to know about herb gardening is to learn about how to dry herbs for winter, as this is a major part of herb gardening in general. In order to dry herbs properly for winter, what you need to do first is use the cut off tops of the leafy varieties in midsummer, and then you need to wash them off with cold water.
Then you need to hang them up just long enough so that the drops of water can evaporate, then you should tie the stems together and place them in a paper bag with the stem ends at the opening, next close the bag with a rubber band; you will need to use a paper clip as a sort of hook through the band and place the other hooked end over your line where you are going to hang the herbs to actually dry.
Next, what you need to do is wait for a couple of weeks, and after this, you remove them from the paper bags, and then crumble the leaves and place them on a shallow pan and dry them out in the oven – just make sure that the oven is not too hot, because you want to be carefull not to burn them..
If you are a true herb fancier, you always have another option, and that is to dry them instead by spreading them out on trays and placing them in a dry area; just remember that it is better to keep them fully in the sun for at least the first day because little insects, which may have been secreted in the heads, will then leave as the seeds dry out.

Drug Herb Interaction
Thursday, April 12th, 2007 by TimDrug Herb Interaction – Finding Out How It Works
Drug herb interaction is a problem – even though herbs can cure many health issues. A product of mother Earth, using herbs can still cause a problem particularly when you are taking medicines as well simultaneously. The two together can cause side effects and have implications on the body such as digestion problems and others as well.
And that is precisely why herbal supplements and products come with the advice that ‘you should consult your doctor before use’. So be frank with your doctor. Tell him that you have been taking these herbs and pills so that he knows in advance before prescribing. The person can also inform you about any complication that may arise. Even if you are not on any herb at the moment but are planning to take it in the future, you should still tell this to the doctor.
On an herbal supplement? Do you notice any change to your body? Closely monitor for the slightest symptoms, as they may be early warnings of a drug herb interaction.
There Are Health Issues In Drug Herb Interaction
Those who practice herbal remedies and also conventional medical practitioners are both worried about the drug herb interaction problem. This is because negative cases concerning interactions come to notice all the time. However, you need to understand that drug-herb interactions do not occur because of a chemical reaction between the drug and herb components, which produces a toxic material. Instead, these interactions can be a result of herb components causing a decrease or increase in the quantities of drug in one’s bloodstream.
It has been observed that herbs tend to lower the amount of drug in the body by stopping it from mixing with the blood. In such a case, the drug you are taking end up having no effect at all.
In other cases, herbs in the blood also enhance the drug levels thereby immediately breaking down and removing the drug from the body. When this happens, the dosage of drugs could reach high levels producing unwanted side affects.
There are actually many drug herb interaction health concerns. Such as blood pressure increase resulting in heart problems, infections, sugar levels in the blood going down, blood clots and others like this.
Yes herbs can cure but there are still many safety issues. They may not be as safe as you think. And herbs and drugs getting mixed can change their ability to have a positive impact. So it is always better that you take the opinion of a doctor about the negative effects of drug herb interaction and also take precautions of possible side effects. Only then can you get the best results.
